Thirteen African exchange students arrived at Narita International Airport and Kansai International. Although the COVID-19 pandemic had made it difficult for the students to come to Japan from Africa, fortunately, all of them managed to arrive safely at Kyoto University.
The 13 short-term exchange students were invited to Kyoto University by the “Innovative Africa” (IAfP) program. The program was launched in academic year 2020 to support the formation of inter-university exchanges with African countries. As part of this program, Kyoto University and Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) have been working on the program since academic year 2020 to develop highly innovative human resources to lead the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through student exchange with partner universities in Africa.
With the cooperation and support of staffs and assistants from Kyoto University’s IAfP office, the 13 invited international students have each successfully moved into their own accommodations in Kyoto. They will stay in Japan for approximately three months, from October to December, and advance their studies through exchanges with Kyoto University students and faculty members.
