University of Pretoria president visits Kyoto University

On October 4, 2022, Professor Tawana Kupe, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria in South Africa visited the Center for African Area Studies, Kyoto University. Dr. Farai Kapfudzaruwa, a strategic specialist and Professor Masafumi Nagao, a visiting professor and a professor emeritus, Hiroshima University accompanied him. Prior to their visit to the center, President Kupe and Dr. Kapfudzaruwa paid a courtesy visit to President Nagahiro Minato and Executive Vice President Kayo Inaba at the university headquarters on October 3, during which future cooperation in education and research between the two universities was discussed.  

The October 4 meeting was attended by Motoki Takahashi (Director, Center for African Area Studies), Gen Yamakoshi (Vice Dean, Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies), Shuichi Oyama (Chairperson of Africa Division, African Area Studies, Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies), and Hidenori Harada (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies). The attendees expressed their strong interest  in the expansion of cooperation between the two universities, including exchanges, research, and student exchanges. The representatives also agreed to start discussion on conclusion of a memorandum of understanding on at an early date.
